Privacy Policy
Last updated: February 2026
BeautyGPT ("we", "our", or "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
1. Information We Collect
- Facial photos you voluntarily submit for skin and hair analysis. These are sent to xAI's API for processing and are not stored on any third-party servers after analysis is complete. A compressed thumbnail of your photo is stored locally on your device to enable features such as virtual hairstyle try-on.
- Skin analysis results (skin type, undertone, face shape, concerns) and hair analysis results (hair type, texture, color, condition, length, concerns, and recommended hairstyles) stored locally on your device via SwiftData.
- App preferences such as budget preference, age, and reminder settings stored locally on your device via UserDefaults.
- Approximate location coordinates (with your permission) sent to Open-Meteo for weather-based skincare recommendations.
- Profile pictures you optionally upload via camera or photo library for your in-app profile. These are stored locally on your device as a compressed JPEG file and are never transmitted to any external service or server.
- No account creation is required. We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or any other personal identifiers.
2. Face Data & AI Processing
When you use skin analysis, virtual try-on, or hairstyle generation features, your facial photo is processed as follows:
- What is collected: Facial photographs you voluntarily submit.
- How it is processed: Photos are resized to a maximum of 512 pixels and compressed as JPEG before transmission over an encrypted HTTPS connection.
- Who receives it: xAI, the operator of the Grok API (api.x.ai).
- Purpose: To analyze skin characteristics (type, undertone, face shape, concerns), hair attributes (type, texture, condition), and generate virtual makeup/hairstyle previews.
- Retention: Photos are processed in real-time by xAI and are not permanently stored. Per xAI's API data usage policy, API inputs are not used to train their AI models.
- Local storage: A compressed thumbnail (512px) and text-based analysis results are stored only on your device.
- On-device face detection: Apple's Vision framework is used locally on your device to verify a face is present before any data is transmitted. No face geometry or biometric data leaves your device.
- No biometric identification: BeautyGPT does not create faceprints, facial recognition templates, or any biometric identifiers. The app assesses general skin and hair characteristics for beauty recommendation purposes only.
3. How We Use Your Information
- Facial photos are used solely to generate AI-powered skin and hair analysis, product recommendations, and virtual hairstyle previews. Photos are transmitted to xAI for processing and are not stored by xAI after analysis. A compressed thumbnail is retained locally on your device for use with the virtual hairstyle try-on feature.
- Skin and hair analysis data (including hair type, texture, color, length, condition, and concerns) is used to personalize product recommendations, skincare routines, hair care product suggestions, hairstyle recommendations, and climate-aware suggestions.
- The virtual hairstyle try-on feature sends your photo along with hair attributes and the selected hairstyle to xAI's image editing API to generate a preview of how the hairstyle would look on you. Generated previews can be saved to your device's Photos library or shared at your discretion.
- Preferences are used to tailor your in-app experience (e.g., budget-appropriate products).
4. Third-Party Analytics & Advertising
- No Third-Party Analytics: BeautyGPT does not include any third-party analytics SDKs or frameworks. No analytics data is collected or shared with third parties.
- No Third-Party Advertising: BeautyGPT does not include any third-party advertising. No ads are displayed and no advertising SDKs or ad networks are integrated into the app.
5. Data Sharing & Third Parties
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data to any third party. Data is shared only with the following services, solely for core app functionality:
- xAI API: Receives your selfie photos for AI-powered skin and hair analysis, product recommendations, and virtual hairstyle generation. For hair analysis, your hair attributes (type, texture, color, length, condition, concerns) are also sent to generate personalized hair care product recommendations. The virtual hairstyle try-on feature sends your photo and selected hairstyle details to xAI's image editing API. xAI processes data under their API data usage policy, which states that API inputs are not used to train their models. Subject to xAI's Privacy Policy.
- Open-Meteo: Receives approximate location coordinates for weather data. Open-Meteo is a privacy-focused, open-source weather API that does not collect or store personal data. No personally identifiable information is shared.
- YouTube Data API (Google): Used for tutorial video recommendations. No personal user data from BeautyGPT is shared with YouTube. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
- No other data sharing: No data is shared with any other third parties beyond those listed above.
6. Purpose of Data Collection
- All data collected by BeautyGPT is used exclusively for the app's core functionality: providing personalized skin and hair analysis, product recommendations, virtual hairstyle try-on, and climate-aware beauty suggestions.
- No user or device data is collected for purposes beyond the app's core features. There is no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking of any kind.
- Data collected is limited to what is necessary to deliver the app's services and is not repurposed for any other use.
7. User Consent & Data Transmission
BeautyGPT will only collect, use, transmit, or share your personal data after meeting all of the following requirements:
- Disclosure: We clearly disclose what data is being collected and transmitted (as detailed in Section 1 above).
- Recipients: We specify exactly who your data is sent to — xAI for photo analysis, Open-Meteo for weather data, and YouTube/Google for video recommendations.
- Permission: We obtain your explicit permission before sending any data. The app requests your consent through iOS system permission prompts (camera access, location access) and in-app consent before transmitting data to third-party services. You may revoke these permissions at any time through your device's Settings.
- No data is transmitted until you actively initiate an action (e.g., tapping "Analyze" to send a photo, or enabling location for weather features).
8. Affiliate Disclosure
BeautyGPT participates in affiliate marketing programs, including the Amazon Associates Program. When you tap a product link and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission at no additional cost to you. This helps support the app's development.
We are a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for us to earn fees by linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites.
9. Data Storage & Security
- All personal data (analysis results, preferences) is stored locally on your device and is never uploaded to external servers.
- A compressed thumbnail of your facial photo (reduced resolution and quality) is stored locally on your device to support features like virtual hairstyle try-on. Full-resolution photos are not retained. No photos are saved to cloud storage.
- Profile pictures are stored locally on your device as a JPEG file. You can remove your profile picture at any time from the Edit Profile screen within the app.
- Data sent to xAI and Open-Meteo is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections and is not permanently stored by these services.
- Deleting the app removes all locally stored data permanently.
10. Your Rights
- You can delete all your data at any time by deleting the app from your device.
- You can reset your analysis history and preferences within the app settings.
- You may choose not to submit photos, in which case the app's recommendation features will be limited.
- You can deny location permissions and still use core features.
- You can deny camera permissions (analysis requires manual photo selection).
11. Children's Privacy
BeautyGPT is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with data, please contact us.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page and within the app. Continued use of the app constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
